Our type 20 radiator is now available. It’s the first kit for owners of 4 cylinders who would like to upgrade the quality and appearance of their cooling systems. However, the Type 20 is not limited to 4 cylinder applications. The core size is spec for European E36 6 cylinders. This configuration allows for additional clearance, which is required by many aftermarket forced induction kits, while retaining the 16″ fan.
Designed around a high efficiency European core, this radiator will improve both cooling capacity and safety for years to come. The type 20 includes a 16″ Spal fan that is rated at 1300 CFM, which is mounted on an alloy shroud. The purge tank uses our own neck design, permitting a discreet vent and high performance cap. By running a tube from the vent port to the exterior of the car, vented gases can be seen by the driver immediately warning of engine problems. NASCAR fans will recognize the virtue of this little trick.
Also, the purge tank is plumbed for a petcock and level sensor. Note the engine fill line is canted toward the rail reducing space requirements and smoothing out the flow of the line. The right tank is fitted with a bung for the fan control switch.
Finally, this kit replaces the factory plastic shroud, which increases front engine access–especially in 4 cylinder applications. The mechanical engine fan and clutch are also removed, freeing up horse power and reducing stress on the water pump.

WIRING OPTIONS
This is the recommended approach. With this option, the SPAL electric fan is wired into the existing car harness and operates on the auxiliary fan circuit. However, to remove the factory auxiliary fan, one must dismantle the front end of the car. It’s a lot of extra work, but the results are worth it. This package includes the necessary wiring components for single (high) speed operation.

Same as above, but this version includes additional components for two (low-high) speed operation.
• Single Speed Fan Kit
This option includes one wiring kit. The factory auxiliary fan is retained. The SPAL fan operates at a single speed on its own circuit.
• Two Speed Fan Kit
This option includes two wiring kits and a resistor. The factory auxiliary fan is retained. The SPAL fan operates at two speeds on its own circuit.
